Concrete Patios in Dundas

We pour concrete patios in Dundas, built for a valley where water runs off the escarpment and the ground stays wet, and for backyards behind century brick and stone homes. Each patio sits on a compacted granular base and slopes about 2 percent away from the house. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Dundas is the Valley Town. The Niagara Escarpment wraps it on three sides, so rain and snowmelt run down the slopes and collect on the valley floor, and the soil holds that water rather than shedding it. Many of the homes beside that wet ground are a century old, with foundations that already let water in through failed parging and hairline cracks.

That makes a Dundas patio a drainage job first. A patio poured flat, or sloped toward the house, sends every rainfall and every spring melt straight at an old foundation. The full method, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the 100 mm slab, the compacted Granular A base and the control joints, is on our concrete patios page. This page is about what Dundas changes.

Slope the patio away from an old foundation

We set every patio at about 2 percent away from the house, roughly a quarter inch per foot, and check where your downspouts discharge before the forms go in. Behind a century home that already takes water in spring, the patio must not add to it.

If your basement is already wet, say so at the site visit. The patio grade is part of the answer, and the rest is on our Dundas basement waterproofing page.

Wet valley ground and freeze-thaw

Ground that stays wet is the ground that freezes and moves. We build the patio on 100 to 150 mm of compacted Granular A so the slab does not settle into a new, wrong angle two winters later.

Every patio gets 32 MPa air-entrained concrete.

Old backyards and tight lots

Much of Dundas is established housing: century brick and cut stone in the downtown core around King and Sydenham and on the streets that climb toward the escarpment. Lots there are often tight, so access deserves a straight answer at quote time. If the concrete truck cannot get near the forms, the crew moves the mix by pump or by wheelbarrow, and the quote names that.

If your backyard has an old cracked or sunken slab, we break it out, haul it away, fix what failed under it, and pour fresh. Where newer infill and larger lots near the valley edge allow it, there is room for a bigger patio. Broom finish gives grip, exposed aggregate adds texture, and stamped concrete adds pattern and colour.

Cure and booking in Dundas

Foot traffic can go on a new patio after 24 to 48 hours, furniture after 7 days, and we seal it at about 28 days.

Dundas books onto our Hamilton-area routes through the season. Everything else we do in town is on our Dundas page.

Questions

Straight answers

Will a new patio make my Dundas basement wetter?

Not if it is built right. The escarpment sends runoff onto the valley floor, and a flat patio or one sloped toward the house sends that water at the foundation. We slope every patio about 2 percent away from the house and plan where the downspouts discharge before we pour.

Can you replace an old patio behind a century home in Dundas?

Yes. We remove and haul away the old slab, fix the base problem under it, and pour a new patio sloped away from the house. Tear-out and disposal go in the written quote.

How much does a concrete patio cost in Dundas?

Size, the finish you choose, access to the backyard, the base the ground needs, and whether an old slab has to come out all move the number. We do not post a flat rate because it would mislead. A free written quote comes after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.

What does the lifetime warranty on labour cover?

Our workmanship: the site preparation, base, the pour and the finishing done as part of the job, and repairs needed because that work was done wrong. It lasts as long as you own the home where we did the work. Materials carry their manufacturers' warranties.
