Stamped & Decorative Concrete in Dundas
We pour stamped and decorative concrete in Dundas: patios, walkways and driveway borders in slate, flagstone, cobblestone and wood-plank patterns. Escarpment runoff keeps the valley ground wet, so the base and the drainage under the pattern decide how long it lasts. Union-certified crews do the colour and stamping, the labour carries a lifetime warranty, and the written quote is free.

Stamped concrete in Dundas goes into a town of established homes. The Niagara Escarpment wraps the Valley Town on three sides, and behind the intact downtown along King Street the streets run to century brick and cut stone. A stamped surface laid beside that masonry has to sit quietly next to it.
The ground changes the job. Water runs off the slopes onto the valley floor, where Spencer Creek carries it through town, and soil that catches that much runoff stays wet longer. Wet ground that freezes moves, so the base under a pattern and the slope of the slab matter more here than the pattern itself.
The method, pattern families, colour system and joint layout are on our stamped and decorative concrete page. This page covers what stamping a Dundas yard asks of the crew: a compacted base for wet ground, a slope that sends meltwater away from an old foundation, a pattern chosen for the house, and a written resealing plan. The quote is free and written.
Wet valley ground: the base and slope under the pattern
We set a compacted granular base under every stamped slab, and in Dundas we plan the drainage before the forms go in. The slab is poured in 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, 100 mm (4 in.) thick for patios and walkways.
Behind a century home that already takes water in spring, a stamped patio must not add to the problem. We slope the slab away from the house and check where your downspouts discharge. If your basement is already wet, say so at the site visit; the Dundas basement waterproofing page covers that side.
Choosing a pattern beside century brick and stone
Around King and Sydenham and on the streets climbing toward the escarpment, the housing is old brick and cut stone. Quieter patterns sit best there: ashlar slate or random flagstone, with a base colour taken from your brick, stone or trim, and a shade quieter than the chip you fall in love with. Colour reads stronger across a whole patio than on a sample card.
We bring manufacturer colour charts to the site visit and talk you out of anything that fights the house. Where newer infill and larger lots near the valley edge leave room, the choice is wider, and a stamped border around a broom-finish field gives most of the look for far less of the upgrade.
Joints, sealer and the first winter
Control joints are cut along the pattern's grout lines, so shrinkage cracks land in lines that were meant to be there. We apply the first coat of acrylic sealer with an anti-slip additive, because sealed stamped concrete is slippery when wet, and we put the resealing schedule in writing: plan on every two to three years to hold the colour.
Go easy on de-icing salt in the first winter, when new decorative concrete is still gaining strength. Sand for grip, seal in the spring, and use salt sparingly after that.
Straight answers
Does Dundas's wet valley ground change a stamped patio?
It changes the base and the slope. Water runs off the escarpment onto the valley floor and the ground stays wet, so we build on a compacted granular base and slope the slab away from the house before we pour.
What stamped pattern suits a century brick or stone home in Dundas?
Quieter ones. Ashlar slate or random flagstone in a colour taken from the brick, stone or trim usually sits better than a busy surface. We bring colour charts to the site visit and match them to your house.
Will a stamped patio make my Dundas basement wetter?
Not if it is built right. We slope the slab away from the foundation and plan where the downspouts discharge before we pour. If the basement already takes water, the drainage plan is part of the answer.
How much does stamped concrete cost in Dundas?
Stamped work is an upgrade over a standard broom slab. The pattern, the number of colours, the hand detailing, the size of the area and what the ground needs first all move the number. A free site visit gets you a written quote that lists the slab, colour, stamping and sealing separately.
