Concrete Driveways in St. George
We pour new, wider and replacement concrete driveways in St. George: on the new lots in St. George Village and StoneyRidge, on the older streets off Main Street, and on the farm and estate lanes along the concession roads. The village sits on clay that holds spring water and heaves in a hard freeze, so every driveway is built on a compacted granular base with 32 MPa air-entrained concrete. Union-certified crews, a free written quote and a lifetime warranty on labour.

St. George sits up on the clay plain, not in a river valley. The clay is slow to drain, so snowmelt and spring rain soak the ground for weeks. When frost drives deep, that wet clay grips a slab and lifts it. A driveway on a thin base can crack in its first winters.
The full spec, from the mix to the joints and cure times, is on our concrete driveways page. This page is about what a St. George driveway needs in particular.
Clay that holds the spring melt
Water that cannot drain sits where frost can reach it. When it freezes under a slab, it lifts the slab, and each winter the cracks grow. So we dig out to firm ground, compact a granular base in layers, and slope the driveway so melt runs off the slab and away from the house and garage.
Every driveway gets 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, the mix built for freeze-thaw and road salt, with saw-cut control joints to guide where shrinkage cracks are most likely to form.
New lots in St. George Village and StoneyRidge
New lots in the village bring calls for a wider driveway, a garage pad or a patio.
Tell us the whole list at the site visit. Getting a crew and equipment to the site is a large part of the cost of a small pour, so widening the driveway in the same visit as a patio or a garage pad costs less than separate trips. You get one written quote for all of it.
Rural lanes on the concession roads
Past the village limits, the driveways are longer and work harder. They are plowed and salted all winter, and tractors and trailers cross slabs that a house spec was never sized for. Where equipment will sit or cross, we thicken the slab to five inches and add reinforcement.
Open-field wind also cools a late-fall pour faster than in town. If a November cold snap would beat the cure, we push the pour back a few days instead of risking the slab.
Straight answers
Why does our St. George driveway crack and heave every winter?
Usually it is wet clay under a base that was never deep enough. The clay under the village holds spring water where frost can reach it, and a slab on a thin base gets lifted when that water freezes. Once a panel cracks, water gets in and each winter widens it. We tell you if a repair can still help or if a new pour on a proper base is the better choice.
Can you widen the driveway the builder left on our new St. George home?
Yes. We widen driveways on the new lots in the village. We build the new section on the same compacted base as a full driveway, and we can pour a patio or a pad in the same visit.
Do you pour long driveways for farms and rural homes around St. George?
Yes. On a rural lane, we thicken the slab to five inches with reinforcement where tractors, trailers or other equipment will sit or cross, and we grade the whole run so water sheds off it. We quote the full length after a site visit.
How much does a concrete driveway cost in St. George?
Size sets the floor, then the finish, the base the ground needs, access, and whether an old slab has to come out. We do not post a flat rate that would only mislead you. A free written quote comes after a site visit, and the number we give you is the number you pay unless you change the job.
