Foundation Repair in St. Catharines
We repair foundation cracks and leaks across St. Catharines, from the century walls in Merritton, Port Dalhousie and downtown to the newer Grantham and Vansickle pours. A leaking crack in a poured wall usually takes polyurethane injection from inside, in one visit. A dry crack that needs its strength back takes epoxy. A block wall that bows takes carbon fibre straps and a fix for the water pushing on it. When an old wall leaks in many places, the job is waterproofing, and we say so. Quotes are free, in writing, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Foundation cracks in St. Catharines follow the way the city was put together. It pulled in Grantham, Merritton and Port Dalhousie in 1961 and part of Louth out to Fifteen Mile Creek in 1970, so one city holds very old walls and very young ones. The old village cores carry early footings. The newer surveys west toward Louth carry modern pours on disturbed backfill.
The ground is the other half of the story. Glacial Lake Iroquois left thick clay across the city between the escarpment and the lake. Clay heaves with frost and holds water against a foundation wall long after the snow goes. A crack means different things in a Merritton wall and a Vansickle wall, so the first job is to read the wall you have.
The full method, epoxy and polyurethane injection and carbon fibre, is on our foundation repair page. This page is about how those repairs fit St. Catharines walls. Send the form for a free written quote. We reply within one business day.
Old canal-side and downtown walls on Iroquois clay
Merritton grew up tight against the canal locks as a mill town. Port Dalhousie was the lake harbour where the canal met the water. The downtown blocks along St. Paul Street follow the old Iroquois Trail above Twelve Mile Creek. These streets have foundations poured generations ago, with parging and mortar that are often past their service life.
On a poured wall, a crack that leaks is sealed with polyurethane injection from the inside face through to the soil side. On a block wall, the same clay pressure can show as a stair-step crack along the mortar joints, or a wall that starts to bow inward. That is soil pressure, and it goes on the serious list. When an old wall leaks across many joints instead of one crack, injecting one spot will not keep the basement dry, and the answer is basement waterproofing in St. Catharines.
Thaw after thaw: why cracks reopen here
St. Catharines does not get one long settled freeze. The temperature crosses zero again and again from December through March. Meltwater gets into a crack, freezes, and opens it a little more. That is why a smear of caulk or hydraulic cement on the inside face fails by spring, and why we inject the crack to full depth.
We also look outside the wall. Clay that stays saturated keeps pushing, so we check the grading and the downspouts that feed it. A crack fix that leaves the water in place will not last.
Newer Grantham, Vansickle and Louth-side walls
A new survey sits on disturbed backfill that keeps settling for a season or two. A thin vertical shrinkage crack in a young poured wall is normal as the concrete cures. We measure width, direction, movement and offset. A crack under 1/8 in. is usually shrinkage. A crack wider than 1/4 in., one that grows each year, a horizontal crack, or one where one face sits higher than the other needs structural attention.
A dry hairline that does not grow is often a 'watch it for a year' answer, and we will say so. A crack that leaks gets polyurethane, and most single-crack injections are done in two to four hours. The written quote names the crack, its cause and the fix, so you can compare it with any other quote.
Straight answers
Who repairs foundation cracks in St. Catharines?
We do, across the whole city, from Merritton and Port Dalhousie to Vansickle. Our union-certified crews inject leaking cracks with polyurethane, bond dry cracks with epoxy, and reinforce bowing block walls with carbon fibre. The quote is free and in writing, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty for as long as you own the home.
Why do foundation cracks in older St. Catharines homes keep coming back?
Two things stack up. The city thaws and refreezes many times from December to March, and meltwater in a crack pries it open again. The ground is also the thick clay glacial Lake Iroquois left, which holds water against the wall. A surface patch plugs only the face. We inject the crack to full depth and check the grading and downspouts that feed the water.
We have a new home in Vansickle and a crack in the basement. Is it serious?
Usually not. Poured walls shrink as they cure, and thin vertical cracks in the first years are normal. It matters if the crack leaks, grows, runs horizontal, or one side sits proud of the other. We measure it at the quote and tell you plainly which kind it is, even when the answer is to watch it.
How much does foundation repair cost in St. Catharines?
We do not publish a price, because the jobs are so different. The cost turns on the number of cracks, whether the fix is a seal or reinforcement, the wall height, how far the wall has moved, and whether drainage work is needed. The free written quote gives you the real number, and that number holds unless you change the job.
Water is coming through a crack right now. What should I do?
From October to March, send the form and check the box that says water is coming in. Urgent water problems are seen first. Meanwhile, move valuables off the floor and, if it is safe, point a downspout away from the wall. We reply to every request within one business day.
