Concrete Slabs & Garage Pads in East Gwillimbury
We pour shed pads, hot tub pads and detached garage slabs across East Gwillimbury. On the new streets in Sharon, Queensville and Holland Landing, the pad sits on graded fill that may still be settling, so we check the ground before we dig the base. Near the Holland River and the marsh lowlands, the pad needs a deeper, well-drained base on soft, wet soil. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

A pad does its work below the surface. In East Gwillimbury the ground under a pad is one of two kinds, and each one changes how we build it. See our East Gwillimbury page for everything else we do in town.
The full build, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the compacted Granular A base, and mesh or rebar by load, is on our concrete slabs and garage pads page. This page covers what East Gwillimbury's ground and homes change. The site visit and the written quote are free.
New lots: a garage slab on fill that is still settling
Much of the new building in Sharon, Queensville and Holland Landing sits on land that was a field or a farm a short time ago. The lot is now graded fill, and fresh fill keeps settling for a season or two after the builder leaves. A garage pad or a shed pad poured too soon can drop unevenly as the ground compacts under it.
So on a new lot, we check the compaction before we dig the base, and we usually tell you to wait through the first full year. Ask for the quote early anyway: it gets you a better place in the season. If the pad is for a shed that is not yet built, tell us the rough footprint and we pour to it.
Near the river and the marsh: a base that drains
The town sits along the East Holland River, and the land falls to the west into the Holland Marsh lowlands. Near the river and the marsh edge, the soil is soft and organic and the water table is close to the surface. Water stays where it should drain, and frost goes deep under a slab. A floating garage pad on that ground without a proper compacted base cracks and tilts within a few winters.
On a lot like that, we dig deeper, compact the granular base in lifts, thicken the edges where the walls will sit, and slope the floor toward the door so melt off the car leaves. South of town, on the sandier Oak Ridges Moraine ground, water drains better, so we look more at grading and washout than at heave.
Garage floors, hot tub pads and sheds
A garage or shop floor carries a vehicle, so it gets a 10M rebar grid at a 400 mm spacing and a slab 125 to 150 mm thick. A shed pad or a hot tub pad takes welded wire mesh. A filled hot tub weighs two to three tonnes, so we pour that pad level, reinforced, and a little larger than the tub.
A light resin shed does fine on a compacted gravel pad, and we will say so at the visit rather than sell you concrete you do not need. Most detached garages need a building permit, and the cutoff for sheds varies by municipality. We flag which side your project lands on at the site visit.
Planned trips north
East Gwillimbury is at the north end of York Region, a long way from our home routes. We book pads here into planned trips north and give you real dates, not a same-day truck. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
We just moved into a new home in Sharon. When can we pour a garage pad?
Usually after the first full year. The ground under a new East Gwillimbury lot is graded fill that keeps settling for a season or two, and a slab poured on it too soon can drop unevenly. We check the compaction on the site visit and tell you if the lot is ready.
Our lot is near the Holland River. Can we still have a concrete pad?
Yes. The ground near the river and the marsh is soft and wet, and frost goes deep, so the base needs care. We dig deeper, compact a granular base in lifts, and slope the surface so water leaves the pad.
Do I need concrete for a shed in East Gwillimbury, or will gravel do?
A light resin shed does fine on a compacted gravel pad, and we will tell you so. Concrete is the right answer once the shed is a workshop, stores anything heavy, or needs anchoring against wind.
How much does a concrete garage pad cost in East Gwillimbury?
The size, the thickness, the reinforcement the load needs, the base your ground needs and how easily the truck can reach the site set the price. A wet lot near the marsh is a different dig from a settled lot in an older Mount Albert street. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote holds unless you change the job.
