Oshawa needs concrete repair for a clear reason. The old core near Lake Ontario, downtown, the harbour and lakeshore streets like Lakeview, goes back to the early auto years, and many of its steps, walks and driveways are on their second or third life. The new north-end surveys around Windfields and Kedron mostly want first patios and pads instead.
Most older concrete does not need to come out. A crack can be injected, a sunken slab levelled, a worn surface ground and resurfaced, and a broken step formed and re-poured. Why concrete cracks and sinks on both sides of Oshawa
The south end sits on the old glacial Lake Iroquois shoreline, a plain of washed sand and clay where the water table runs high near the harbour. Spring melt and heavy fall rain put water into the ground there, and water can wash out the base under a walk or driveway apron.
North and inland the ground turns to clay-loam till. Clay heaves when frost reaches under a thin slab and holds water against it long after the snow goes. A slab that lifts every winter and drops every spring opens cracks as it moves. An Oshawa repair starts underneath: we check the base, the grade and where the downspouts send their water before we quote, because a crack filled over a slab that is still moving opens again by spring.
Steps, walks and driveways on the older streets
The lakeshore and central streets have the oldest flatwork in the city, much of it poured before a deep granular base was standard. Road salt and freeze-thaw work on it from the top down, so treads spall, edges break and steps sink. Spalled treads and broken edges are formed and re-poured with 32 MPa air-entrained mix, and a worn but sound surface can be ground back and given a bonded overlay instead of a tear-out.
Resurfacing only works on a slab that is stable underneath. Once whole panels have lifted or the base has failed, an overlay will not hold, and removal plus a fresh pour on a proper base is the straight answer. We tell you which side of that line your concrete is on, and the written quote says why.
When a crack is a foundation or water question
A crack in a walk or garage slab is a repair job. A crack in a basement wall that leaks every spring, or one that keeps growing, is a different question, and on the south-end shoreline plain it often comes down to water.

Should I repair or replace the cracked concrete at my Oshawa home?
It depends on the base. Repair wins when the damage is local and the base under it is still sound: one or two cracks, a slab that settled on one side, surface pitting or a broken step edge. Replacement wins when the slab has cracked all over, the base has failed across the whole area, or the surface has scaled so deep there is nothing sound to bond to. Can you level a sunken walk or slab in Oshawa instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. We pump material through small holes drilled in the slab to fill the void under it and float it back to grade. Mudjacking uses a slurry and wants 24 to 48 hours before traffic; polyurethane foam takes traffic the same day. Before we lift, we find out why the base washed out, so the slab does not sink again.
