Concrete Repair and Resurfacing in Bowmanville, Ontario
We repair cracked, sunken and worn concrete on Bowmanville homes: crack injection, slab lifting, resurfacing, step rebuilds and sealing. The older blocks around King Street have settled steps and tired foundations, and most of Bowmanville sits on clay-loam that holds water. We find the cause before we quote the fix, and we say so when replacement is the better spend. The quote is free and written, and the labour carries our lifetime warranty.

Bowmanville has two kinds of concrete. The new surveys on the north and west edges are mostly young slabs. The heritage core along King Street has settled steps, tired walks and old foundations with parging that has let go.
Most of that older concrete does not need to come out. A crack can be injected, a sunken slab lifted, a pitted surface ground back and resurfaced, and a broken step formed and re-poured. The full method for each is on our concrete repair and resurfacing page. This page covers what Bowmanville's ground and older houses change about the job.
Why concrete near King Street heaves and cracks
Most of Bowmanville sits on South Slope till, a clay-loam that drains slowly and holds water. When frost reaches that water under a slab on a thin base, it lifts the slab. In spring the slab settles, and cracks open along the way.
So a Bowmanville repair starts underneath. We check the base, the grade and where the downspouts send their water before we quote. A crack filled over a slab that is still moving opens again by spring. A slab lifted while a downspout keeps washing out its base sinks again.
Near the lake: high water and old steps
Closer to Lake Ontario the ground is the old shoreline plain, sand over clay, with a water table that sits high near the older streets. Lake freeze spray and heavy fall rain reach the older houses there, and salt and freeze-thaw work on front steps from the top down.
Spalled treads and broken edges are formed and re-poured in air-entrained 32 MPa mix. A worn surface on a sound step or walk can be ground back and given a bonded overlay instead of a tear-out. Foam-lifted slabs take traffic the same day, and mudjacked slabs need a day or two.
When the crack is really a foundation question
A crack in a walk or a garage slab is a repair job. A crack in a basement wall that takes on water every spring, or one that keeps growing, is a different question. Many Bowmanville houses near downtown were built before modern sealing.
For those, see our foundation repair and basement waterproofing work. Cracked parging on an old foundation is covered under parging. We sort out which job your house needs at the free visit. Bowmanville is the far east end of the Durham towns we cover, so we book Clarington jobs into planned trips east and give you a real date.
Straight answers
Should I repair or replace the cracked concrete at my Bowmanville home?
It depends on the base. Repair wins when the damage is local and the base under it is still sound: one or two cracks, a slab that settled on one side, surface pitting or a broken step edge. Replacement wins when the slab has cracked all over, the base has failed across the whole area, or the surface has scaled so deep there is nothing sound to bond to. The written quote says which side of that line your concrete is on, and why.
Can you lift a sunken walk or slab instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. We pump material through small holes drilled in the slab to fill the void under it and float it back to grade. Mudjacking uses a sand-and-cement slurry and wants a day or two before traffic. Polyurethane foam uses smaller holes and takes traffic the same day. Before we lift, we find out why the base washed out, so the slab does not sink again.
Do you do concrete repair in Courtice, Newcastle and Orono too?
Yes. Courtice, Newcastle and Orono book onto the same trips east as Bowmanville. The job runs the same way: a free site visit, a written quote, and the labour warranted for life.
How much does concrete repair cost in Bowmanville?
There is no honest flat rate. The cost moves with the size of the area, how far the damage goes, the condition of the base, the repair method, access and the season. The visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
