Concrete Removal & Demolition in Waterford, Norfolk County

We break out and haul away old driveways, walkways, steps, patios and garage pads in Waterford, the pond town at the top of Norfolk County. The town sits where sandy ground starts to change to heavier soil, and the ponds keep the water table high on one side, so we look at why the old concrete failed before we plan what goes back. Quotes are free and written, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

Waterford mixes century-home streets, postwar blocks and newer builds at the edge of town. Their concrete is at different stages of life. A front walk on a hundred-year-old house and a driveway on a postwar lot both reach the point where patching stops paying and the old slab has to come out. That is the job this page covers.

Removal follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and clean concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Waterford ground and Waterford homes change about that job.

Transition ground: check why the slab failed

Waterford sits near the top of the Norfolk sand plain, where sandy ground starts giving way to heavier soil on the road north. On sandy lots, slabs rarely fail from frost heave. Water from a downspout or a low spot runs along or off the slab and undercuts the edge. On the heavier pockets, the slab can move with frost the way it would on clay.

Once the old concrete is out, we look at which of these happened. If the base washed out or moved, we compact new granular material in lifts before anything is poured. If concrete is not going back, we grade the space so water leaves it instead of running toward the house. Two lots a few streets apart can need different prep, which is why the free site visit comes before the number.

Pond-side lots and soft ground in spring

The ponds and the low ground along the old rail corridor keep the water table high on that side of town. Ground that stays soft into May changes how a machine crosses the lawn and how we plan the base for the next pour. We look at where the water goes before we plan the machine path.

If your lot backs onto the ponds or the Heritage Trail, tell us when you send the form. It changes how we plan access and grading.

Century-home steps, walks and driveways

On the older streets, tear-out is often a crumbling step, a settled front walk or a driveway that has been patched more than once. Small jobs like these are welcome. They go onto our scheduled route with a written quote.

Where a machine cannot get through, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. The smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. Hand breakout takes longer, so it goes in the written quote after the site visit. See concrete driveways in Waterford and concrete patios in Waterford for what goes back in.

Questions

Straight answers

Our Waterford driveway has cracked and sunk at the edge. Does it have to come out?

Often the cause is water that ran along or off the slab and carried away the ground under the edge. We look at the slab and the water path at the site visit and tell you whether it can be repaired or has to come out. If it comes out, we fix the water problem and rebuild the base before a new pour.

Can you remove concrete in a backyard with a narrow gate?

Yes. Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. If there is no machine access, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. It takes longer, so it goes in the written quote after the site visit.

We back onto the ponds. Does wet ground stop a removal job?

Not usually. Lots near the ponds and the trail corridor can hold a high water table into spring, so we plan the machine path and the grading around that. Tell us where the ground stays soft when you send the form.

How much does concrete removal cost in Waterford?

The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

What happens to the old concrete?

Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
