Concrete Patios in Waterford
We pour concrete patios across Waterford, the pond town at the top of Norfolk County, from century-home backyards near downtown to pond-side lots and the newer builds at the town's edges. Waterford sits where the Norfolk sand plain gives way to heavier soil, and the ponds keep the water table high on that side of town, so we check your ground first, then build the base and the slope to suit it. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Waterford grew up around a chain of ponds and an old rail corridor, now the Heritage Trail. Plenty of backyards here look out on that water, and a patio is often the first thing a homeowner wants to add. The same water is the first thing we plan around.
The ground under the town is not one kind. Waterford sits near the top of the Norfolk sand plain, where the sandy soil starts to change to heavier soil on the road north. Sandy lots drain fast but wash out at the edges. The heavier pockets hold water longer and move more with frost. Two backyards a few streets apart can need a different base.
The full method, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the 100 mm slab, the compacted Granular A base and the control joints, is on our concrete patios page. This page is about what Waterford's ground and homes change. The site visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number you pay.
Pond-side backyards and a high water table
Near the ponds and along the low ground by the trail corridor, the water table stays high and the ground can stay soft well into May. That does not rule out a patio. It means the patio has to be built for wet ground: a thicker compacted granular base, a slight lift in elevation, and grading that keeps surface water moving past the slab instead of pooling under it.
Sand, heavier soil, and why we check your lot
On Waterford's sandy lots, a patio rarely heaves. It fails at the edges, where runoff from the slab or a downspout rinses the sand out from under a corner. So we contain the edges, compact the base, and plan with you where the downspouts and the patio's runoff go before the forms go in.
On the heavier pockets, the risk is frost. Wet soil that freezes under a slab lifts it. There we use the deeper base and the drainage care we use in clay country. We slope every patio about 2 percent away from the house, whichever ground you have.
Finish, cure and when to book
Broom finish gives grip and is the most affordable. Exposed aggregate adds texture. Stamped concrete adds pattern and colour; see our stamped and decorative concrete page if you are weighing it. Whatever the finish, the slab is 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, the mix made for freeze-thaw winters.
You can walk on a new patio after 24 to 48 hours. Give it about a week before furniture or the barbecue, and about 28 days before sealing. Waterford sits on our run between Simcoe and Brantford, so a patio here fits into a regular route day.
Straight answers
We back onto the ponds. Is the ground too wet for a patio?
Almost never too wet to build, but too wet to build carelessly. Lots near the ponds and the trail corridor can hold a high water table well into spring. We check how your ground behaves first. The usual answer is a thicker compacted granular base, a slight lift in elevation, and grading that moves surface water past the slab instead of under it.
Our lot is sandy. Does that make a patio easier?
In one way. Sand drains fast, so a patio on sand heaves less in winter. The trade is erosion: sand washes out where water runs over it, so an edge or a corner can lose its support. We compact the base, contain the edges, and keep downspout water off the slab.
Can you replace the old patio behind our century home?
Yes. We take out the old slab, find what failed underneath, and pour a new patio sloped about 2 percent away from the house. If the old one sloped toward the house, the new one fixes that.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Waterford?
Size, the finish you choose, access to the backyard, and the base your ground needs all move the number. A pond-side lot that needs a thicker base costs more than a dry, level one. Broom finish is the most affordable, exposed aggregate is a step up, and stamped work costs more. We give you a written quote after a free site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
Is Waterford too far for your crews?
No. Waterford sits on our run between Simcoe and Brantford, so a patio here books into a regular route day, with a written quote and the lifetime warranty on labour.
