East Gwillimbury is four old villages with new subdivisions filling the gaps, and the ground under them is not one thing. Near the East Holland River and the Holland Marsh lowlands the soil is soft and organic and the water table runs close to the surface. On the newer edges the lots are graded fill that was a field a year or two ago. Both kinds of ground can move a slab. See our East Gwillimbury page for everything else we do in town.

The removal itself follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler, not a landfill. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what East Gwillimbury ground and homes change about that job.

Older village cores: Holland Landing and Mount Albert

The older streets in Holland Landing and Mount Albert carry brick homes that have stood for decades, with settled front steps among the common wear. If the old concrete can be repaired or resurfaced, we say so. If it cannot, it comes out.

With the old concrete gone, we look at the base under it and at where the water goes. Near the river and the marsh edge, wet ground holds melt against a foundation long after the snow goes. If an old slab sloped toward the wall, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing while the ground beside the wall is open.

New subdivisions: Sharon, Queensville and the growth edges

In the newer streets of Sharon and out toward Queensville, removal can mean a narrow driveway coming out ahead of a wider one, or a small pad making way for a patio or garage slab.

Fresh fill keeps settling for a year or two after the builder leaves. Before we rebuild a base on it, we check what the slab was sitting on. Doing the tear-out and the new pour with one crew means the base is rebuilt while the ground is open, and you pay for one trip, not two. See concrete patios in East Gwillimbury for what can go back in.

Booking a removal in East Gwillimbury

East Gwillimbury is at the north end of York Region, a long haul from our home routes, so removal here books onto planned trips north with real dates, not a same-week promise. Small jobs, like one walkway or an old shed pad, are welcome. We decide the machine path at the site visit, so the lawn, the fence and the neighbour's side are planned for. We reply to every request within one business day.

Questions

Straight answers

Why did the steps on my older Holland Landing or Mount Albert home settle?

Older village homes have stood for decades, and settled steps are part of that wear. When we take the old concrete out, we look at the base and the drainage under it before anything new goes in.

Can I tear out the driveway on my new Sharon home?

Yes. Widening a narrow driveway or replacing a small pad is a normal removal job. Fill under a new subdivision keeps settling for a year or two, so we check what the slab is sitting on before we dig the base for the new pour.

Do I need a permit to remove a driveway or patio in East Gwillimbury?

Removing flatwork normally needs no building permit. Utility locates are required by Ontario law before any digging, and we order them as part of the job. If the new driveway changes the width or curb cut, check with the town before the pour. We flag both at the quote.

How much does concrete removal cost in East Gwillimbury?

The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. We do not post flat rates. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
