Concrete Patios in Woodstock
We pour concrete patios across Woodstock, from first patios at Havelock Corners and Sally Creek to replacements behind the brick homes off Vansittart Avenue. Most of the city sits on clay and clay-loam that swells when wet and lifts a slab on a thin base, so we build the base first, slope the patio about 2 percent away from the house, and pour air-entrained 32 MPa concrete. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Woodstock sits at the head of the Thames River, with Cedar Creek cutting through the south end, and the ground under most of the city is clay and clay-loam. Clay drains slowly and holds melt and rain, and frost lifts slab edges wherever a base was poured thin. A backyard patio sits right beside the foundation, so the water that lifts the slab can also end up against the basement wall.
So a Woodstock patio is decided in the base and the slope, not on pour day. The full method, the mix, the 100 mm slab, the base and the control joints, is on our concrete patios page. This page is about what Woodstock's ground and homes change. The site visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
Clay ground, frost and water
On clay, the answer to frost is a proper base and good drainage, not just a thicker slab. We slope the patio about 2 percent away from the house so melt and rain run off the slab, not toward your basement.
The low ground near Cedar Creek stays wetter than the rest of the city. On a lot down there, where the downspouts empty matters as much as the slab itself. We look at your grade and your downspouts at the site visit and plan the base and the runoff to suit them.
Havelock Corners, Sally Creek and the older streets
In the newer surveys at Havelock Corners and the Villages of Sally Creek, the patio is often the job the builder left for the homeowner: the step that turns a new lot into a finished yard. New-survey soil keeps settling for a season or two, so we check compaction before pouring.
In the older blocks around Vansittart Avenue, the patio meets century brick and original foundations, so we keep the slope and the runoff clear of the walls. If the basement there already runs damp, see our basement waterproofing in Woodstock page before you pour beside the wall.
Finish, cure and when to book
Broom finish gives grip and is the most affordable. Exposed aggregate adds texture. Stamped concrete adds pattern and colour; see our stamped and decorative concrete page if you are weighing it. Whatever the finish, the slab is 32 MPa air-entrained concrete.
You can walk on a new patio after 24 to 48 hours, set furniture on it after about a week, and seal it at about 28 days. Woodstock anchors our Oxford County routes, with crews in the city most weeks of the pouring season, so quoting in spring gets you a better slot.
Straight answers
Does Woodstock's clay ground change how a patio is built?
Yes. Clay holds water, and frost lifts a slab edge wherever the base is thin. We slope the patio about 2 percent away from the house. The concrete is air-entrained 32 MPa, made for freeze-thaw.
We just closed at Havelock Corners. When should we add a patio?
Once the lot has settled and you know how water moves across it, which usually means after the first spring. New-survey soil keeps settling for a season or two, so we check compaction before pouring anything.
When can we use a new patio?
Walk on it after 24 to 48 hours. Give it about a week before furniture, planters or the barbecue, and about 28 days before sealing. Concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks after the pour.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Woodstock?
Size, the finish you choose, access to the backyard and the state of the ground all move the number. We do not post a per-foot rate. You get a written quote after a free site visit, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
