Concrete Patios in Acton
My Concrete Pros pours concrete patios, gazebo slabs and pool decks across Acton. The ground here is clay till over limestone, so the job starts with digging to stable material and building a compacted base the frost cannot lift. Near Black Creek and Fairy Lake the ground sits damper, so the slope and drainage matter just as much. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Acton sits on higher, cooler ground at the north end of Halton Hills. Newer streets have filled in around the edges of town, and a lot of those yards still have the plain backyard the builder left. The older brick and stone blocks around Mill Street have patios and steps that were poured a long time ago and have since tipped or scaled. See our Acton page for everything else we do in town.
A patio is a drainage job that is also a nice place to sit. We slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for the freeze-thaw winters, and put it on a compacted granular base. The full method and specs are on our concrete patios page. This page covers what Acton ground and Acton homes change about that job.
Clay over limestone: the base decides the patio
Acton's soil is Halton clay till sitting over limestone. Clay heaves when frost reaches under a thin base, and a patio poured on a skimped base lifts and tips in its first winters. On this higher escarpment ground the bedrock sometimes runs close to the surface, so a crew can hit rock sooner than on the deeper soils down toward the lake.
We check the ground at the site visit and build to what is actually there. We dig to stable material, then compact the granular base in lifts before any concrete goes in. The written quote reflects the real ground, not a guess.
Damp ground near Black Creek and Fairy Lake
Black Creek runs through town and feeds Fairy Lake at Prospect Park. The low ground near the water stays damper through a wet spring, and the clay holds that moisture. A flat patio, or one that has settled toward the house, sends every rain and every spring melt at the foundation wall.
Before we pour, we look at where the downspouts empty and how the yard drains. We set the slope away from the house so meltwater runs off the slab instead of freezing under it. If the wall already lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Acton before a patio goes in on top of the problem.
Older homes off Mill Street: steps and old slabs
Many homes near Mill Street are well over a century old. Road salt off Highway 7 adds scaling to the surface of older slabs and steps. Our crews can take out an old slab and pour the new patio so it ties cleanly to the walkway or steps beside it.
Gazebo slabs are part of our patio work, so if you want a structure on the pad, bring the plan to the visit and we will quote it with the patio.
Straight answers
Does the shallow rock around Acton change a patio pour?
It can. Acton sits on clay till over limestone, and on this higher ground the bedrock sometimes runs close to the surface. We check the ground at the site visit, dig to stable material and compact a frost base in lifts, so the clay cannot heave the slab. The written quote reflects the real ground.
Will a new patio make my basement damper?
Not if the patio is built right. We slope every patio about 2 percent away from the house and check where your downspouts empty. Low ground near Black Creek and Fairy Lake stays damper in spring, so drainage gets extra attention there. If your wall already leaks, we tell you before we pour.
Can you replace the old patio or steps on a Mill Street home?
Yes. We take out the old slab, rebuild the base and pour a new one that drains away from the house. We tell you what the old slab's failure says about the ground under it before anyone talks money.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Acton?
Size, finish, how easily a truck can reach the backyard and what the ground needs first set the number, and on Acton's clay-and-rock ground the base prep is a real part of that. We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
