Stamped & Decorative Concrete in Caledon

We pour stamped and decorative concrete across Caledon: estate patios, front walks, porch landings and driveway borders, from Bolton subdivisions to country houses on the concession roads. The ground changes from lot to lot, with free-draining Oak Ridges Moraine sand on one and heavy clay on the next, and a crack is harder to hide in a stamped surface than in a plain one, so the base under the pattern matters most. Union-certified crews handle the colour and stamping, the labour carries a lifetime warranty, and the written quote is free.

Stamped concrete is pressed and coloured to read as slate, flagstone, cobblestone or plank. In Caledon it tends to go where the house is seen: the patio behind an estate home, the walk and landing at the front door, or a border that frames a long driveway. Exposed aggregate and a tinted broom finish are quieter options. See our Caledon page for everything else we do in town.

The full method, with the pattern families, the colour system, the mix and the joints, is on our stamped and decorative concrete page. This page covers what Caledon changes about the job: the ground under the slab, how we book a long drive north, and the salt and freeze-thaw of a country winter.

Moraine sand or wet clay: the base comes first

Caledon sits where two landforms meet. The Niagara Escarpment runs up the west side through Cheltenham and the Forks of the Credit, with limestone close to the surface. East of that, the Oak Ridges Moraine is a deep mix of sand and gravel that drains fast. Lower down, near the creeks and river flats, the soil turns to heavy clay that holds water.

Every outdoor slab moves a little. On a broom finish a small crack is easy to live with. On a stamped surface it cuts across the stone pattern. So the pattern starts below the slab. On moraine sand we contain and compact the granular base so it cannot wash out, and slope the surface away from the house. On clay and low ground we dig deeper to firm ground, because frost gets under a thin base and heaves it. We pour 32 MPa air-entrained concrete and saw the control joints along the pattern's grout lines, so shrinkage opens inside a line your eye already reads as part of the stone.

Estate patios and farmhouse walks

Many Caledon properties are large and open, so a stamped patio often sits beside a country house with plenty of room to lay out a pattern. We bring the manufacturer charts to the site visit and hold them against your brick, stone or siding, so the colour suits the house you already have.

On an older farmhouse or village home, stamped work is often a replacement: a sunken step or cracked walk comes out and a decorative surface goes in. If the wall beside it has been taking on water, look at that first. See basement waterproofing in Caledon.

Sealer, salt and booking a Caledon job

Colour on stamped concrete lasts as long as the sealer over it. Freeze-thaw swings, snow shovels and road salt wear that coat down, and once it is gone the colour goes flat. Plan to reapply the acrylic sealer every two to three years. We put the schedule in writing before you sign. Our sealer carries an anti-slip additive, because sealed stamped concrete is slippery when wet.

Caledon is a long drive north from our home routes, so we book Caledon jobs into planned trips into Peel and the GTA, with a firm date. We reply to every request within one business day.

Questions

Straight answers

Will a stamped patio crack on Caledon clay?

Any outdoor slab can move as the ground freezes, thaws and swells. We control where it moves: we dig to firm ground, compact the base, and saw the control joints along the grout lines so shrinkage opens inside the pattern. If a failure comes from our workmanship, the lifetime warranty on labour brings us back.

Our Caledon lot is on moraine sand and gravel. Does that change a stamped slab?

It drains well, which means less frost heave than on clay. The catch is that loose sand can wash out or shift under a slab if the base is not contained and water is not graded away. So we focus on a properly compacted, contained base and on moving runoff away from the concrete.

Stamped, exposed aggregate or tinted broom: which suits my Caledon home?

Stamped reads as stone, brick or plank and gives the most decorative look. Exposed aggregate shows the stone in the surface. A tinted broom finish is the quietest upgrade. A stamped border around a plain field gets much of the look for less of the upgrade. We bring charts to the site visit so you can hold them against your house.

How much does stamped concrete cost in Caledon?

Stamped is priced as an upgrade over a plain broom finish. The size, the pattern, the number of colours, the hand detail and the base your ground needs all move the number. We do not post a figure, because it would mislead you. The free written quote itemizes the slab, the colour, the stamping and the sealing, and the number we write down is the number you pay unless you change the job.
