Concrete Walkways & Steps in Uxbridge
My Concrete Pros builds and rebuilds concrete walkways, front steps and entrances across Uxbridge, from settled steps on older village homes to long paths on rural lots out on the concessions. Uxbridge sits on the Oak Ridges Moraine, glacial sand and gravel that drains fast, so a walkway here heaves less than one on lakeshore clay. The care goes into the base and the edges, so the sand does not wash out from under the path. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Entrance work in Uxbridge comes in two kinds. In the village core and the hamlets, the call is usually a repair or a replacement: front steps that have settled, or a walk that has cracked through. On the big rural and estate lots, the call is a longer path from the drive or the road to the door. See our Uxbridge page for everything else we do in the township.
The full method is on our concrete walkways and steps page: the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the compacted granular base and the uniform risers. This page covers what Uxbridge ground and Uxbridge homes change about an entrance. The free written quote covers jobs as small as one set of steps.
Moraine sand: lock the edges, shed the water
Uxbridge sits on the Oak Ridges Moraine, glacial sand and gravel, and water moves down through it instead of sitting on top. On the clay down by the lake, the fight is water that stays in the ground and heaves the slab. On the moraine, a walkway sees less frost heave. The weak point moves to the edges: sand that drains well can still wash out from under an open edge when runoff runs along it.
So we read the lot for how the water moves before we pour. We slope the walk so rain and meltwater leave the surface and go away from the house, and we contain and backfill the edges so the sandy shoulder stays where it is. Uxbridge still takes the full Ontario freeze-thaw swing every winter, so the mix and the base stay the same as anywhere else.
Older homes in the village core and the hamlets
Homes on the heritage streets of the village, and in hamlets such as Goodwood, Sandford and Leaskdale, are often decades old. The ground beside an old foundation is backfill, and it keeps settling, so front steps drop and tip away from the door. A gap there sends water down the foundation wall.
Steps and porches that attach to the house go on footings below the frost line, or are tied to the structure, so they move with the house. When only the surface is breaking down, a full rebuild can be the wrong answer, and we say so before anyone talks money. That is repair territory, and our crews handle it on the same trip. If the wall beside the steps needs it, see parging.
Long paths on rural and estate lots
Many Uxbridge homes sit on big lots out on the concession roads, and the walk from the drive to the door can run a long way. A long path scales mostly with its length, width and finish, and access for the truck changes the work. We look at access on the site visit and put it in the written quote.
A walkway rides on the same trip as a driveway or a patio, so tell us the whole list at the visit. The entrance is also the one surface every visitor crosses, so a broom finish for grip is the default, and a stamped pattern stays affordable on a small area.
Booking an Uxbridge walkway
Uxbridge is in north Durham, well off our home routes in southwestern Ontario, so we group Uxbridge jobs into planned trips and give you real dates, not a same-week promise. Small jobs still get a written quote and the lifetime warranty on labour. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Why have the front steps on my older Uxbridge home dropped?
Usually because the backfill beside the foundation has settled under them. Steps that sit above the frost line move on their own while the house holds still. The fix is a firm, compacted base and, where the steps attach to the house, footings below the frost line or a tie to the structure.
Does the sandy moraine ground in Uxbridge change how you pour a walkway?
Mostly in your favour. The glacial sand and gravel drain fast, so a walkway heaves less in winter than one on lakeshore clay. The catch is that the same sand can wash out from under an open edge, so we put the work into the slope and the edge containment.
Can you do a long path on a rural lot out on the concessions?
Yes. We measure the run on the site visit, check how the truck reaches the forms, and put the access and the finish in the written quote.
How much do new concrete steps or a walkway cost in Uxbridge?
The number of risers, the length and width, tear-out of the old steps, whether footings are needed, the finish and access to the entrance all change it. We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
