Georgina splits in two for entrance work. Keswick is the largest community, and its new subdivisions are still filling in. Sutton, Jackson's Point and Pefferlaw are older and closer to Lake Simcoe, with many former cottages that are now year-round homes.
Steps and walkways fail where water and soft ground meet them. In Georgina that happens in two different ways, one on each side of town. The full method, with footings, risers, mix and cure times, is on our concrete walkways and steps page. This page covers what a Georgina entrance needs in particular.
New lots in Keswick: let the ground settle first
New-survey ground keeps moving for a season or two after the builder leaves. The soil beside a new foundation is backfill, and it keeps settling for years.
Steps and porches that attach to the house get footings below the frost line, about 1.2 metres down, or get doweled into the foundation wall where that is the sounder detail. That stops them moving on their own as the ground freezes and thaws. A freestanding walkway can float on a compacted granular base instead.
Sandy, wet ground near the lake
The south shore of Lake Simcoe is low and sandy, with marshy stretches and a water table that sits close to the surface. Sand near the lake drains fast, but a high water table can wash an uncontained base out from under a slab.
A walkway there sits on a compacted granular base with 100 mm (4 in.) of 32 MPa air-entrained concrete on top, sloped so water runs off it.

Do you come up to Georgina for a small job like one set of steps?
Yes. Georgina is at the far north edge of the GTA, past our home routes, so we group its jobs into planned trips and give you firm dates instead of a same-week promise. We quote jobs as small as one set of steps, and booking steps or a walkway alongside another pour on the same trip cuts the cost of a small job.
How much do concrete walkways and steps cost in Georgina?
Walkways scale mostly with area and finish. Steps are quoted by the job: the number of risers, the total height, the footings and the tear-out of the old set drive the cost. The site visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
Can you rebuild the front walkway and steps together?
Yes. We rebuild entrances as a system: footings under the porch, risers set to a uniform height off the walkway's finished grade, and the walkway sloped so meltwater leaves instead of icing the steps. Our quote names each piece so you can compare it against anyone's.
