Concrete Walkways & Steps in Ingersoll
We build and rebuild concrete walkways, front steps and entrances across Ingersoll, from worn steps on a century brick home near Thames Street to a replacement front walk on a plant-era street. Most of the town sits on Thames valley clay-loam that holds water and lifts a thin base, so steps that attach to a house get footings below the frost line and a compacted granular base. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Front steps and the path to the door are the concrete Ingersoll homeowners use every day, and clay-loam is hard on them. It holds melt and rain, and when that water freezes under a thin base it pushes the steps and the walk out of level.
Ingersoll splits two ways. In the core around Thames Street the Victorian and Edwardian brick homes have front steps that have stood for generations. The subdivisions that followed the CAMI plant, which opened in 1989, are now 25 to 35 years old, the age when builder-grade front walks come due. We quote both in writing, from one cracked panel to a full entrance rebuild.
The full method, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the 100 mm walkway, the footings and the riser heights, is on our concrete walkways and steps page. This page is about what Ingersoll's ground and homes change.
Clay-loam ground and the footing
Steps that attach to a house get footings below the frost line, about 1.2 metres down, or are tied into the foundation wall where that is the sounder detail. In Ingersoll the ground is Thames valley clay-loam, and clay heaves when frost reaches under a skimped base.
We read the ground at the free site visit instead of guessing, and we say before the work starts if the footing detail has to change.
Century steps and plant-era front walks
The core blocks carry Victorian and Edwardian brick, and their front steps are old. Clay heaves with frost, so older steps can tip and settle. At the free site visit we look at what is under them and tell you what it needs. Depending on how far gone they are, we resurface and re-support them or pour new steps on a compacted base.
On the plant-era streets, a front walk that has heaved at its joints usually means water held in the clay under a thin base. We break out the old walk, haul it away, fix what lifted it, and pour fresh, sloped so meltwater runs off instead of freezing under it.
Repair, relevel or rebuild?
Sound steps that only settled or scaled can often be repaired. Steps whose base has failed need rebuilding.
We tell you which one you have at the free site visit. The written quote names each piece so you can compare it with anyone else's.
Straight answers
Why are the front steps on my older Ingersoll home sinking and flaking?
It depends on what is under them, and we check on site. Clay holds water and heaves with frost, and steps that move with the season can tip, settle and scale. Depending on what we find, we either resurface and re-support them or pour new steps on a compacted base.
Our Ingersoll front walk has heaved at the joints. Repair or replace?
Hairline cracks that stay put are cosmetic. Joints that have heaved, dropped or widened year over year mean the base is finished, and a resurface over a failed base buys a couple of seasons at best. We look at the walk and tell you which it is.
Can you rebuild the walkway and steps together?
Yes. We plan the footing, rise, drainage and finish together, and the written quote names each piece.
How much do new concrete steps cost in Ingersoll?
Steps are quoted by the job, not by area. The number of risers, the total height, whether it needs footings and the condition of what is torn out drive the cost. The site visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
