Stamped & Decorative Concrete in Newmarket
We pour stamped and decorative concrete in Newmarket: patios, front walks and driveway borders, from the heritage blocks around Main Street to the newer surveys. Newmarket has two kinds of ground, fast-draining moraine sand in the south and heavy Newmarket Till clay in the north and west, and a crack shows more in a stamped surface than in a plain one, so the base under the pattern matters most. Union-certified crews do the colour and stamping, the labour carries a lifetime warranty, and the written quote is free.

A stamped walk or patio is the finish people notice, and in Newmarket the ground under it decides whether it stays that way. The south edge of town is on the Oak Ridges Moraine, sand and gravel that drains fast. The north and west sit on heavy clay till. See our Newmarket page for everything else we do in town.
The full method, with the pattern families, the colour, the mix and the joints, is on our stamped and decorative concrete page. This page covers what Newmarket changes about the job: the base, the older homes near Main Street, and the timing on a new lot.
Sand or clay: the base matters more under a pattern
On the moraine sand, frost heave is the smaller worry. The bigger one is a base that shifts or washes out when water runs under the slab. On the clay till, frost reaches under a shallow base and lifts the slab, and the clay holds meltwater against it for weeks.
A small crack is easy to live with on a broom finish. On a stamped surface it can cut across the stone pattern. So we dig to firm ground, compact a granular base, and pour 32 MPa air-entrained concrete. We cut the control joints along the pattern's grout lines, so shrinkage opens inside a line the eye already reads as part of the stone. We decide the depth of the base on site, after we see your ground.
Older homes around Main Street, newer surveys beyond
Around historic Main Street and Fairy Lake, the homes are older. We bring the manufacturer charts to the site visit and match the colour against your brick. We also check the wall and the parging beside the slab. If the parging is failing, we can redo it before new concrete covers the bottom of the wall.
In the newer surveys, such as Stonehaven-Wyndham, Glenway Estates, Summerhill and Woodland Hill, fresh fill keeps settling for a season or two. We usually tell you to wait through a full spring, then we check the base before we pour.
Newmarket is a long drive north, reached by the 400 and 404, so we book jobs here into planned trips and give you a real date, not a same-day truck.
Sealer, salt and winter
Colour on stamped concrete lasts as long as the sealer over it, and a winter of road salt and freeze-thaw wears that coat down. Plan on resealing every two to three years. We put the schedule in writing before you sign.
Stamping is a race against the set. The crew has a couple of hours after the pour to colour, stamp and detail the whole surface, so we staff each pour with enough certified finishers to beat it.
Straight answers
Will a stamped patio crack on Newmarket clay?
Any outdoor slab can move as clay freezes and thaws. We control where it moves: we dig to firm ground, compact the base, and cut the control joints along the grout lines so shrinkage opens inside the pattern. If a failure comes from our workmanship, the lifetime warranty on labour brings us back.
We are in a newer survey like Stonehaven or Woodland Hill. When can we pour a stamped patio?
Give the lot a full spring first, so the ground has been through a freeze and thaw. Fresh fill keeps settling for a season or two, and a slab on ground that is still moving can crack. We check the base before we pour.
Can you add a stamped walk to an older home near Main Street?
Yes. We bring pattern and colour charts to the site visit and match them against your brick, so the new surface suits the house you already have. We also look at the wall and the parging beside the slab before we pour.
How much does stamped concrete cost in Newmarket?
Stamped is an upgrade over a plain broom finish. The size, the pattern, the colours, the hand detail and the base your ground needs all move the number. We do not post a flat figure, because it would mislead you. The free written quote can show the plain and stamped versions side by side, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
