Sandy lakeshore ground: keep the base from washing out
Sand drains fast, so frost heave is the smaller worry near the lake. The bigger one is a base that washes out from under the slab where the water table runs high. A crack is easy to live with on a broom finish. On a stamped surface it can cut across the stone pattern.
So we dig to firm ground, contain and compact a granular base, and pour 32 MPa air-entrained concrete. We cut the control joints along the pattern's grout lines, so shrinkage opens inside a line the eye already reads as part of the stone. We grade the water away from the slab, and we decide the depth of the base on site, after we see your ground.
New Keswick lots and converted cottages
In the new Keswick surveys, fresh ground keeps settling for a season or two. We usually tell you to wait through a full spring, then we check the base before we pour a patio or front walk.
Near the water in Sutton and Jackson's Point, many homes began as cottages. Before new concrete covers the bottom of a wall, we check the wall and the parging beside the slab. We bring the manufacturer's colour charts to the site visit and match them to your brick or siding.

Sealer, salt and winter
Colour on stamped concrete lasts as long as the sealer over it, and a winter of road salt and freeze-thaw wears that coat down. Plan on resealing every two to three years. We put the schedule in writing before you sign.
Stamping is a race against the set. The crew has a couple of hours after the pour to colour, stamp and detail the whole surface, so we staff each pour with enough certified finishers to beat it.
