Foundation Repair in Georgetown
We repair poured and block foundations in Georgetown: leaking cracks injected to full depth, bowing block walls held with carbon fibre straps, and a plain call on whether your crack is the harmless shrinkage kind or one that needs work. Georgetown sits on Halton Till, a stiff glacial clay-loam that holds meltwater against a wall long after the snow is gone, so we check the grading, downspouts and drainage along with the crack. The quote is free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Georgetown sits on the east, downhill side of the Niagara Escarpment, on Halton Till, a stiff glacial clay-loam laid over the red Queenston shale. That clay holds meltwater against a foundation long after the snow is gone, and it heaves when frost works into it. A wall in that ground gets pushed from outside every spring.
The town has two kinds of foundation. The older blocks around Main and Church, and the streets toward King and Queen, have walls that predate modern drainage. Georgetown South, built out survey by survey since 1989, has newer walls backfilled with disturbed clay fill that keeps settling.
Most foundation cracks are not emergencies. The job is to tell the harmless ones apart from the ones that matter: cracks that grow every season, cracks that leak, horizontal cracks, and stair-step cracks through block. The full method is on our foundation repair page. This page is about what Georgetown's ground and housing change about the job.
What Halton Till does to a Georgetown foundation wall
Clay holds water. When Halton Till is saturated it pushes sideways on the foundation wall, and when frost reaches it the ground heaves. On a block wall, that push is what starts bowing and stair-step cracks.
That is why a repair here starts outside the wall as well as inside it. We look at where the downspouts drop their water, whether the ground slopes toward the house, and whether the drainage still carries water away. A wall that keeps getting pushed will keep cracking, so the quote names the cause along with the crack.
Older Main Street walls and newer Georgetown South homes
Foundations in the older core predate modern drainage. In those walls the calls are cracks that open and weep in March, and block walls that have started to lean in. A leaking crack in a poured wall is injected from the inside, the smaller fix, and a bowing block wall is held with carbon fibre straps.
Georgetown South is newer, and newer does not always mean settled. Foundation backfill there keeps settling for a season or two after the builder hands over the lot, so grading can start to run water back toward the house. A thin vertical crack in the first year or two is often normal shrinkage; we measure it at the free visit and tell you plainly which kind it is.
Shallow shale and how it changes the dig
South of Georgetown the glacial cover thins and the Queenston shale comes up close to the surface in places, while a short distance away it is buried under deep clay. A dig that is routine on one street can hit rock on the next.
That matters when a repair needs the wall exposed from outside. We read the lot on the site visit before we quote, so we know whether digging is practical or whether the repair can be done from the inside. When the water is coming through many places, not one crack, the job may be basement waterproofing instead of a crack repair.
Straight answers
Do you do small foundation crack repairs in Georgetown?
Yes. One leaking crack is a welcome job. Georgetown is reached from the Hamilton and Waterdown side of our Halton routes, so a job here books into the regular run rather than onto a someday list once the pouring season is on. A small job gets the same free written quote as a large one.
My Georgetown basement wall is bowing. Does it need to be replaced?
Rarely. A bow under roughly 2 in. is usually held with carbon fibre straps, epoxied to the wall and anchored top and bottom. They stop the wall where it stands; they do not pull it straight. The wet clay outside pushed it in, so grading, downspouts and drainage have to stop feeding that pressure too.
My Georgetown South home is fairly new and has a crack in the basement wall. Is it serious?
Often it is not. Thin vertical cracks in the first year or two are normal shrinkage, and the backfill around a new home keeps settling for a season or two. A crack that leaks, grows through a season, runs horizontally or has one side sitting proud of the other is a different matter. We measure it at the free visit and tell you plainly which kind it is.
How much does foundation repair cost in Georgetown?
There is no honest flat rate. We quote on inspection rather than publishing a number. The visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
