Stamped & Decorative Concrete in East Gwillimbury

We pour stamped and decorative concrete across East Gwillimbury: patios, front walks and driveway borders in slate, flagstone and cobblestone patterns. Two kinds of ground change the job here: new-subdivision fill that is still settling, and soft, wet soil near the Holland River and marsh. The base is checked and built for your lot before any colour goes down. Union-certified crews do the work, the labour carries a lifetime warranty, and the written quote is free.

East Gwillimbury is four old villages, Holland Landing, Sharon, Queensville and Mount Albert, with new subdivisions filling the land between them. Stamped concrete means something a little different in each. On the new streets in Sharon, Queensville and Holland Landing, the back patio is often the pour the builder left for the owner, and a stamped finish gives a plain yard some character. In the older village cores, a pattern has to sit beside brick that has stood for decades.

Stamped concrete is one continuous surface, coloured and pressed to read as stone. It asks for a sound base and a sealer coat kept up through the winters. In East Gwillimbury the base is where most of the care goes, because the ground moves in two different ways.

The whole method, the pattern families, the two-layer colour, the mix and where the joints get cut, is on our stamped and decorative concrete page. For everything else we do in town, see concrete contractors in East Gwillimbury. This page stays on what stamping an East Gwillimbury property asks of the job. The quote is free and written, and the number on it is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.

New lots: let the fill settle before the pattern goes down

Much of the new building in Sharon, Queensville and Holland Landing sits on land that was a field or a farm a short time ago. The lot is now graded fill, and fresh fill keeps settling for a season or two after the builder leaves.

A crack or a dip shows more on a patterned face than on a plain broom finish. So on a new lot we usually tell you to wait through the first full year, and we check the compaction before we dig the base. Ask for the quote early anyway: it gets you a better place in the season.

Near the river and the marsh: a base that drains

The town sits along the East Holland River, and the land falls to the west into the Holland Marsh lowlands. Near the river and the marsh edge the soil is soft and organic and the water table is close to the surface. Water stays where it should drain, and frost goes deep under a slab.

On a lot like that we dig the base deeper, compact it, and slope the slab away from the house. Then we pour 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, the mix for slabs that live with freeze-thaw winters. South of town, on the sandier Oak Ridges Moraine ground, water drains better, so we look more at grading and washout than at heave. If the basement beside the planned patio already gets damp, we tell you before we pour, and you can read about basement waterproofing first.

Choosing a pattern for a village core or a new street

In Holland Landing and Mount Albert, the house sets the rules. Ashlar slate and random flagstone read as stone beside older brick without competing with it, while a busy cobblestone can overpower a small front walk.

On the new streets, a stamped patio, a stamped side walkway or a stamped border around a plain broom-finish driveway does most of the visual work for a small share of the square footage. See concrete patios in East Gwillimbury for how we build the slab under it.

Sealer, anti-slip and booking

The colour on stamped concrete lasts only as long as the sealer over it, so we put a written resealing schedule in with the quote. The sealer carries an anti-slip additive, because a sealed stamped surface is slick when wet.

East Gwillimbury is at the north end of York Region, a long way from our home routes, so we book jobs here into planned trips north and give you real dates, not a same-day truck. We reply to every request within one business day.

Questions

Straight answers

We just moved into a new home in Sharon. When can we pour a stamped patio?

Usually after the first full year. The ground under a new East Gwillimbury lot is graded fill that keeps settling for a season or two, and a slab poured on it too soon can drop unevenly, which shows more on a stamped face. We check the compaction on the site visit and tell you if the lot is ready.

Our yard is near the Holland River. Can we still have stamped concrete?

Yes. The ground near the river and the marsh is soft and wet, and frost goes deep, so the base needs care. We dig it deeper, compact it, and slope the slab away from the house so water does not collect against the wall or under the slab.

What stamped pattern suits an older home in Mount Albert or Holland Landing?

The quieter cut-stone looks usually sit best. Ashlar slate and random flagstone read as stone beside older brick without competing with it, while a busy cobblestone can overpower a small front walk.

How much does stamped concrete cost in East Gwillimbury?

Size, pattern, colour, access and the state of the base set the number. You get one free written quote after a site visit, and the number on it is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.

How do I keep stamped concrete looking good?

Keep the sealer up. The colour lasts only as long as the sealer over it, and we put a written resealing schedule in with the quote. The sealer carries an anti-slip additive, and whoever reseals it later should use one too.
