Parging in Elora
We re-parge the exposed foundation band on Elora homes, from the cut-stone and century houses around Mill Street to the newer streets above the gorge. On old stone the new coat has to suit the wall, and near the river we check where the damp comes from before the coat goes on. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Elora is built where Irvine Creek meets the Grand River, and its historic core around Mill Street and Metcalfe Street is cut stone and century brick. Those walls sit on foundations as old as the buildings above them, and a hundred and fifty winters have weathered the parging off many of them.
The method, the bonding agent, the two-pass coat and the mesh, is on our parging page. This page is the Elora part: what the stone, the river and the newer streets change about the job. The quote is free and written.
Cut stone and century brick: strip, then match the wall
On an old stone house the parging is part of how the wall looks, not just a cover. We strip what is loose and sound the joints first. If the joints are failing or the wall is moving, a new coat would only hide that, so we tell you at the quote what the wall needs before the coat goes on.
We choose a finish that settles beside cut stone instead of glaring next to it, so the foundation reads like the original wall rather than a fresh patch. If a crumbling coat has been painted, the paint seals moisture in, and we strip back to sound material before anything new goes on.
Near the river: where is the damp coming from?
Near the Grand and the Irvine, melt and rain follow seams in the limestone instead of soaking evenly away, so an older foundation can stay damp long after the snow is gone. Water behind a coat freezes and pushes it off.
So we look at where the water goes before we look at the coat. Parging is a weather skin, not waterproofing. If water is coming through the wall below grade, we say so at the quote and point you to basement waterproofing first, then parge.
Newer homes above the gorge
On the higher ground away from the gorge, the clay-loam heaves when frost works under it. A newer foundation that has lost a patch of coat, or a strip behind the front steps, is a small job. We take it, and it gets the same written quote and the same labour warranty as a full perimeter. If a crack is showing through the coat, that may be a foundation repair question first.
Straight answers
Can you re-parge the foundation of an old stone house in Elora?
Yes. We strip what is loose, check that the joints and the wall are sound, and finish the coat so it suits the stone instead of looking like a patch. If the wall itself needs work first, we tell you at the quote.
My foundation near the river keeps losing its parging. Why?
Often water is getting behind the coat and freezing. Near the Grand and the Irvine, water can run along seams in the limestone, so we look at where it comes from before we re-coat. Parging does not stop water coming through the wall, so some walls need drainage or waterproofing first.
Do you take small parging jobs in Elora, like one wall or the strip behind the steps?
Yes. A parging touch-up rides along on the same Wellington County routes as a full driveway. Small work still gets a written quote and the same labour warranty as everything else we do.
How much does parging cost in Elora?
There is no flat rate. Prep, the height of the exposed band, mesh and access change the job. The visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
